My passion for photography started about fourteen. I knew it’s what I wanted to do with my life when I was nineteen, then realized it’s what I was put on this earth to do around age twenty-six. Today after twenty-three years as a professional photographer and over eight hundred weddings under my belt, my passion for photography only grows deeper. I see pictures in everything. My wife says, “You are a camera.” It is true – if I am enjoying experiencing something, I am compelled to capture it. I spend a lot of my time with a camera in my hand, even when not capturing images at a wedding. I love to take pictures during my travels and photograph my children quite a bit, and I have an affinity for fine art photography.

Me, I'm  an easy-going person. My summers as a kid were spent in Indiana with my grandparents at their home on a lake, fishing and boating most every day. Those summers are some of my most cherished childhood memories. My grandfather is still my mentor, though he is now deceased; his portrait still hangs next to the desk in my office. It reminds me to be the type of man he was, someone everyone seemed to know and love, and if they didn’t, they wanted to. He touched many people during his life with his positive and kind spirit, and I strive to do the same.

Ten years ago I married the perfect woman for me. She’s beautiful both inside and out and together we have been blessed with three incredible children. Watching my family grow and develop and being a part of that is true joy, one that I always knew I wanted. I still love the outdoors and have a special place in my heart for water, especially fishing. I will reluctantly watch chick flicks with my wife and sometimes well up, (not cry!) well up… However, I would rather watch sports, with football being at the top of my list. I can be funny, or at least I think so. My brides tell me that I am very easy to get along with and have a very calming presence about me.

My wife tells me that I am the punniest guy she’s ever known. I love a good pun and clever word play. I love the adrenaline high from exercise, but fight with my inner self constantly to make it happen. I love all things Apple/Mac, Sony cameras, new toys and gadgets, especially camera gear. I enjoy cats and dogs equally. Café Soy Latte is my ‘Bucks’ of choice and it’s Peet’s if I really want to straighten what little hair I have left. I love to laugh and enjoy a good cop drama. I prefer comedy over science fiction, rap, rock, and eclectic music – KCRW radio is my music of choice. Vanilla before chocolate when it comes to ice cream, but when I am eating chocolate it’s milk not dark. My weaknesses are anything with hot cheese in it or on it, and chocolate chip cookies. Cereal at night makes me happy. I could give up meat, but not fish. I love sushi way too much. I’ll eat almost anything, but don’t give me brussel sprouts!

I tend to gravitate toward the finer things in life. I covet big watches (U-boat especially) and Mercedes-Benz. My fast car of choice would have to be a Porsche (I am waiting for my mid-life crisis to buy that) great foods, the spa, a long massage, and travel. I love to experience other cultures and the beauty the world has to offer. If I could be granted one wish, my wish would be that I could speak to and understand any person in the entire world no matter what language they spoke. I have been fortunate to travel to many places on this earth as my career has taken me many places, including Bali, Thailand, Australia, Costa Rica, Japan, Guatemala, Canada, Mexico, most of western Europe and at least thirty of our fifty states.

I dream big and set new goals regularly. I look at images everyday that remind me to keep those goals in the front of my mind. I have practiced Buddhism since the age of sixteen. It has taught me appreciation, compassion and to never give up. I have learned that I am my own judge and jury and that cause and effect is a strict law. Common sense, put simply, is what I have gained, along with inner strength and the confidence to accomplish anything I want in life. Giving back is important to me as well. I help to educate and mentor new photographers through speaking and workshops. I give of my time to charities; my favorite is UCP Wheels For Humanity of which I have been involved from its inception, donating my time through photography and graphic design. UPC refurbishes wheelchairs and distributes them in impoverished countries to those needing mobility.

A few of the items on my list of accomplishments are to win an Academy Award, appear as a guest on Letterman, shoot a spread for Vanity Fair magazine, shoot a documentary on weddings, and fish professionally! You must dream big to accomplish big things…
